Can I increase my critical illness cover?

If you have a policy with a renewable option then you can – otherwise no. These days only a few insurance companies offer policies with a renewable option.

If you do have a renewable policy, then this would mean the term could be extended or the sum insured increased (sometimes limits will apply). Many companies will extend to age 65 and a few will extend to 70 - but extending to this age will become very expensive.

There are options on some policies to increase or decrease your contributions (and hence the level of cover) on certain anniversaries, typically every 2 or 5 years. If this option applies then generally further medical evidence is not required.

If the policy is not renewable then it is a simple process of applying for a { mortgages } new policy. Who knows, by then new illnesses may be included in the list of critical illnesses and the premiums may be cheaper too.
