Can my children be included on my critical illness policy?

Some companies will include children in the plan for a small extra charge, others at no extra cost. If you want your children included on your policy, ask the Insurance Adviser when they phone.

A person is considered to be a child if they are aged between 1 and 18 years (although some companies only consider children from aged 3).

Generally your insurer will payout if your child is diagnosed with one of the critical illnesses listed on the policy. However, the maximum sum insured for children is often subject to limits. Sometimes this limit is an absolute sum, say £25,000 and sometimes it is a percentage of the parents sum insured, for example 25%.

If a claim is made, under the children’s critical illness benefit, the policy will still remain in force in and therefore you will still be able to make a claim if you (or your spouse, if it arranged with joint ownership) should be diagnosed with one of the critical illnesses listed on the policy.

When your children reach the age of 18 then they will be able to have their own { mortgages } critical illness policy. (We’re sure they won’t mind you paying the premiums for their policy!)
