Can my partner be included on my critical illness policy?
There is great deal of flexibility in the way you can buy these policies.
You can choose to own a policy in the following ways:
- Sole ownership
As the name suggests, this is for your own critical illness cover. The benefits would
be paid to you in the event of a claim and you then choose to use the money as
you see fit.
- Joint ownership
If you and your spouse both want critical illness protection then many companies
will arrange for the policy to be jointly owned. In these cases payment will be
made on the first claim which then ends the policy. If one of the joint owners
die without a critical illness claim, and there isn’t life cover within the
policy, then the policy will continue for the survivor.
- Could this be a better option?
If you are considering a Joint policy then also cost the alternative of a separate
policy for each person. Why? Because with a Joint policy, if either policyholder
were to claim, the policy automatically terminates. This leaves the surviving policyholder
with no insurance cover and at an older age when it will be more expensive to get
insurance (or even impossible due to deteriorating health).
You can request both Single and Joint policies via our web site.
