If I claim on my critical illness policy will it affect my State Benefits?

There are a number of State Benefits available for people who are sick or disabled, some of which may apply if you are off work as a result of a critical illness.

You could be entitled to receive Statutory Sick Pay, Incapacity benefit, Disability Living Allowance or Severe Disablement Allowance.

These benefits are not means tested, which means that they will not be affected by your receipt from a claim resulting from a critical illness.

If you have a partner who is a carer (or would be after you have been diagnosed with a critical illness) they may be entitled to a Carers allowance. This allowance is only payable if their income is below £77 per week (2003/04)
