What options can be added to a critical illness policy?

You can add Life cover
Instead of having a ‘stand-alone’ critical illness plan, you could combine this protection with Life Insurance cover. These policies will then pay out on a claim for either death or critical illness (not both).

The reason these combined policies were designed is that is possible that a critical illness could be diagnosed and the individual dies before the nessecary survival period is completed (for a claim to be valid on a critical illness policy you need to survive for a set number of days following diagnosis. This “survival period” is normally 28 days but some insurers have reduced the survival period to 14 days). By combining the life and critical illness cover, then, if you were to die within the waiting period, your policy would still pay out under its life provisions.

Waiver of Premium
Waiver of Premium means that if you are unable to pay your insurance premium { loans } because you are sick or have had an accident, then the premiums for the policy will be met by the insurance company. The Waiver of Premium option is inexpensive.

This option is will only available at the time of application and if you are under 55 and in full time employment. It cannot be added to any existing policy you may have.
